Visibility Score is the single number that captures how visible your brand is in AI answer engines — rolling 30-day window by default, with 7- and 90-day variants for trend analysis.
How it's computed
score = citation_rate * 60
+ mention_rate * 25
+ rank_bonus * 15
Where:
- citation_rate — % of tracked runs where your domain appeared in the citation list
- mention_rate — % of runs where your domain appeared anywhere (text or citation)
- rank_bonus —
1 / mean_rank_when_cited, so rank 1 scores 1.0, rank 2 scores 0.5, etc.
Capped at 100. A score of 50 is the threshold we treat as "strong" — the score card border turns amber above that.
What different scores mean
- 0–20 — Effectively invisible. Either no tracked runs yet, or your domain just doesn't surface.
- 20–50 — You get mentioned occasionally but rarely cited. AEO foundation work needed.
- 50–80 — You're a regular citation source. Focus on rank position.
- 80–100 — You're the authority for the tracked prompts. Defend the position.
Why it weights citations heaviest
Citations drive clicks. A page that gets cited at rank 3 on every prompt is worth more than one that gets a passing mention everywhere. We weighted experimentally: the formula above predicted self-reported "I get traffic from AI engines" answers better than four alternatives we tested.
